What are ringtones?

A ringtone is the sound you hear when you someone calls you on your phone. There are two types of ringtones: polyphonic and Real Music.

Real Music Ringtones are available on the Wild Card, Slash, Flare, Aloha, Super Slice, Marbl, Cyclops, Switch_Back, Slider Sonic, Slice, Snapper, Flasher V7, Vox 8610, Oystr, K10 Royale, Shorty, and K9.

Polyphonic ringtones are available on the K7 Rave, Vox 8610, Vox 8500, and Slider V5 *MTV Edition phones.

What are Superphonic Ringtones?

Real Music Ringtones sound just like the actual songs you hear on the radio. They also come in voices and sound effects. You can check them out here.

Real Music Ringtones are available on the Wild Card, Slash, Flare, Aloha, Super Slice, Marbl, Cyclops, Switch_Back, Slider Sonic, Slice, Snapper, Flasher V7, Vox 8610, Oystr, K10 Royale, K9, and Shorty.

I have VirginXtras, how do I get ringtones?

There are a few different ways to download ringtones to your phone:

From our Web site:

1. Go to VirginXtras > Ringtones.
2. Select your phone model to check out the ringtones available for your phone.
3. Search for a specific ringtone, or just browse the catalogue until something catches your eye.
4. Preview the ringtones by clicking on them. You need the multimedia software to play a .rm file.
5. Select a ringtone and click Submit to buy it. Follow the simple steps and the cost will come straight out of your Virgin Mobile account balance. If you don't have enough in your account to buy a ringtone, we'll give you the option to Top-Up.
6. When you're done we'll send the ringtone directly to your mobile. A screen will pop up on your phone to tell you when the ringtone arrives (this might take a minute or two).
7. The Ringtone Manager on your phone will tell you what to do with the new ringtone.

From the VirginXtras menu on your Virgin Mobile phone:

1. Press OK to enter your phone's Main Menu.
2. Select VirginXtras and hit OK.
3. Select Ringtones and hit OK.
4. Highlight the ringtone you want and hit BUY.
5. The cost - including any airtime used to call into *MTV's ringtone library and preview their ringtones - will come straight out of your Virgin Mobile account.
6. When you're done, we'll send the ringtone directly to your mobile. A screen will pop up on your phone to tell you when the ringtone arrives (this might take a minute or two).

By sending a text message to a short code:

1. If you see the name of a ringtone advertised as a "keyword" in promotional messaging from Virgin Mobile, you can buy that ringtone by sending its keyword to the appropriate 3-digit short code. (Normal text messaging charges apply.)
2. The cost of the ringtone will automatically be deducted from your account and we'll send the file directly to your phone.
3. A screen will pop up on your phone to tell you when the ringtone arrives (this might take a minute or two).
4. The Ringtone Manager on your phone will tell you what to do with the new ringtone.

How about some tips?

  • Your phone comes with several ringtone slots. Some slots are permanently taken up by the ringtones that came with your phone. You can fill the rest of the slots with ringtones that you choose.
  • When you download a ringtone you must have a free slot for it. To empty a slot:

    1. Select Menu -> Settings -> Sounds -> My Ringtones.
    2. Select a ringtone to delete.
    3. Now you can download a new ringtone.
    4. When you download a new ringtone, it won't automatically be set as your default. Scroll through to listen to your ringtones, highlight the one you want, and press OK to set that ringtone as your default

  • To set any ringtone as your default:

    1. Select Menu -> Settings -> Sounds -> Ringtones
    2. Highlight a ringtone and hit OK to set it as your default.

  • If you don't have enough in your account to buy a ringtone, you will be given the option to Top-Up.

How do I view animated ringtones?

Animated ringtones are available on the Slash, Flare, Vox 8610, LG Aloha and, UT Starcom Super Slice and Kyocera Wild Card. To view Animated ringtones on a flip phone, you may have to adjust some of the settings on your phone. Here's how to do it:

LG Aloha

1. Set "Auto Flip" to OFF
Go to Menu->Settings->More...->Answer Call and hit OK. Select Talk Only and hit OK again. (Note: To answer your phone with Active Flip Off, you will have to open your phone and then press the green TALK key.)

Flare

1. Set "Auto Flip" to OFF
Go to Menu->Settings->More…->Call Setup->Call Answer and hit OK. Select Talk Only and hit OK again. (Note: To answer your phone with Active Flip Off, you will have to open your phone and then press the green TALK key.)

Vox 8610

1. Set "Auto Flip" to OFF
Go to Menu->Settings->Call Options->Active flip and hit OK. Select Off and hit OK again. (Note: To answer your phone with Active Flip Off, you will have to open your phone and then press the green phone key.)

2. Setting Backlight to 60 seconds
Go to Menu->Settings->Display->Backlight and hit OK. Highlight LCD and use the arrow keys to select 60 seconds.

3. Setting Auto answer to 18 seconds
Go to Menu->Settings->Call Options->Auto answer and hit OK. Select 18 Secs and hit OK.

How much do they cost?

Ringtones for the Wild Card, Slash, Flare, Super Slice, LG Aloha, Marbl, Cyclops, Switch_Back, Slider Sonic, Snapper, Flasher V7, Vox 8610, K10 Royale, K9 and Shorty cost between $2.00 and $2.50 depending on the song.

Ringtones for the K7 Rave, Vox 8500, and Slider™ V5 *MTV Edition phones cost $2.00 per download.

Ringtones for the Party Animal and Super Model are no longer available for download.

TXT Tones are currently available for the Cyclops only. They cost $1.50 each.

*MTV ringtone downloads will also include airtime charges if you call into *MTV's ringtone library to preview them.

The cost comes directly out of your Virgin Mobile account. If you don't have enough left in your balance to cover the cost, we'll let you know and give you the option to Top-Up.

Why do some ringtones cost more than others?

Real Music Ringtones sound a lot better than polyphonic ringtones, so they cost a little more.

What is a short code?

A short code is a 3-digit mobile address from Virgin Mobile. You might see it in promotional messaging from Virgin Mobile along with a "keyword" (e.g. an abbreviated ringtone name). Click here for information about content providers.

To purchase the advertised content, send the keyword as a text message to the short code. The cost of the content will automatically be deducted from your account and we'll send the file directly to your phone. Keep in mind, normal text messaging charges apply when sending a message to a short code.
