What is Mobile Email?

Now you can send and receive email right from your Virgin Mobile phone. Choose from some of the most popular Web-based email services, including AOL® Mail, AIM® Mail, and Yahoo!® Mail.

How much does it cost?

If you've signed up for a Messaging Pack, your balance of messages will be decreased by one message each time you send or receive an email, or receive a new email notification. If you haven't signed up for a Messaging Pack, you'll be charged 10¢ each time you send or receive an email, or receive a new email notification. (Customers with active accounts that were established before 10/23/07 will be charged at the old rate of 5ยข for each email sent or received within the U.S. and 5¢ for each new email notification.) The email application itself is free to download.

How do I use it?

Here's how:
  1. Register for an email account at aim.com or yahoo.com. If you've already got one, then you're all set.
  2. Download Mobile email from this site or by going to Menu -> VirginXL -> Messaging -> Mobile Email on your phone.
  3. In a second or two, an alert will pop up on your phone asking you to complete the download. Click Yes.
  4. Once it's finished downloading, launch email by going to Menu -> My Stuff -> My other stuff.

What is a Yahoo! ID and how do I get one?

In order to use Yahoo! Mail on your Virgin Mobile phone, you'll need a Yahoo! ID and password.

If you've used Yahoo! Mail before, you already have a Yahoo! ID and password. You can use that ID and password to login to Mobile Email on your phone. Your Yahoo! contacts will appear once you login.

What is an AOL Mail or AIM Mail screen name and how do I get one?

In order to use AOL Mail or AIM Mail on your Virgin Mobile phone, you'll need an AOL or AIM screen name and password.

If you've used AOL Mail or AIM Mail before, you already have a screen name and password. You can use that screen name and password to login to Mobile Email on your phone. Your AOL or AIM contacts will appear once you login.

How can I tell how many messages I have left in my Messaging Pack?

Just text the keyword "BAL" to the shortcode TEXT (8398) and hit Send on your Virgin Mobile phone, and we'll send you an alert with your current message balance.

Do I have to keep the Mobile Email application open to receive new mail?

No. Once you log into Mobile Email (by going to Menu -> My stuff - > My other stuff), your phone will alert you when new mail arrives... even if you've closed the application. You can disable this feature by going to Menu -> Mobile Email -> Options.
