What is local number portability?

Local number portability allows you to take your phone number with you when switching phone companies within a local area. So, if you've decided that Virgin Mobile is your wireless service provider of choice, you get to keep your existing phone number AND enjoy a contract-free life with us.

The industry geeks refer to this new option as "porting in" or "porting out." What do these terms mean to everyone else? Porting-in means bringing your phone number to a new phone company and porting-out means taking your phone number from your existing phone company.

Local number portability is a big plus for you, the consumer, and Virgin Mobile has been a big supporter of it from the beginning. Why should you feel bound by a series of digits? We want you to be a happy customer, not a happy hostage.

How do I know if I am eligible?

It depends on where you live and who your current service provider is. Some companies don't yet provide number portability at this time, and some areas are outside Virgin Mobile's coverage area. To see a map with Virgin Mobile's coverage area, click here.
